The Project:

Gravesham Borough Council is planning on developing a 100% affordable, net zero operational carbon ready residential development, in line with the aspiration of becoming a carbon neutral borough by 2030. The pilot scheme that will help the Borough develop a framework for delivering high quality and affordable residential developments in the area that meet ambitious energy and carbon performance standards. The project site is located to the southeast of the town of Gravesham and is currently occupied by one residential block and two semi-detached houses; it is surrounded by a series of flat blocks built in the mid 1900’s.

The 46 proposed homes are contained within three new building blocks and a row of terraced housing. KLH Sustainability support the council in pursuing a zero-carbon ready development within their available budget. This includes a fabric first approach with a ground source heat pump providing heating and hot water demand. The proposal provides the opportunity to retrofit PVs on all roofs to achieve a Net Zero Carbon status in future.
