What We Offer
KLH Sustainability provide a number of services to support clients, developers and contractors to take advantage of the opportunities sustainability presents to business competitiveness in both the short and longer term. We apply a holistic, pragmatic approach in order to add value across a programme’s lifecycle from strategy development through to implementation and legacy. Some of the key services we offer are summarised below:
KLH treat each project and each client as unique. While we bring experience and ideas from previous projects, we help our clients articulate their own sustainability ambitions and consider the constraints and opportunities presented by a specific project.
From corporate sustainability positioning to individual buildings we can help to set challenging strategies that respond to the planetary boundaries and core social foundations. We know that successful implementation of a strategy is a team effort and we take time to ensure that all those involved understand and own the ambition.
If you want to be challenged, get in touch – if you are after a little greenwashing then please don’t call us.
Leadership & Training
We love to talk about sustainability and inspire others to action. We see value in empowering our clients through the expansion of core sustainability knowledge, and as curators of the Cambridge University for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) course in Sustainable Real Estate, you can rest assured we know our stuff and never pause in our ongoing learning journey. From site-based training for sustainable construction to thought-provoking leadership sessions, we can develop and deliver bespoke training and engagement to suit any client.
KLH use Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) and/or TM59 to establish a comprehensive energy profile for any given building, and are experienced in the analysis of embodied carbon. We can undertake early stage design analysis to offer sensitive design solutions to improve performance. By working closely with the wider project team through design iterations we are able to produce a comprehensive life-cycle carbon model to demonstrate achievement of LETI and RIBA targets.
If you are simply after compliance modelling, it’s really not our thing – but if you want to understand how you can respond to the climate emergency, we’d love to work with you.
KLH have extensive knowledge of the national, regional and local planning context and the changing expectations around sustainability both in London and the UK. KLH can assist in gaining planning permission by leading the site specific planning requirements including sustainability statements, sustainable construction statements, climate change adaptation, water statements, circular economy statements and energy statements.
If you require a statement just to tick a planning box you should ask another consultant, but if you would like to integrate sustainability in to a project and then present it to a planning authority, please do get in touch.
KLH carry out in-depth research on behalf of clients for specific projects or topics of interest. We have contributed to the discussion on sustainable aggregates definition, the role of specifying recycled content in delivering low carbon steel and highlighted limitations in relying on cement replacements to deliver low carbon concrete. Our approach is to consider the wider system in which construction products and supply chains operate.
Using scientific research and consultation with industry, KLH have developed a variety of technical notes, frameworks and methodologies which are then used by our clients to inform their decision-making.
KLH have helped to deliver numerous award-winning buildings, either working directly with a contractor to respond to a challenging sustainability brief or alongside a client to upskill and validate contractor performance. We can help to integrate sustainability into specification, procurement and construction site management, so if you want to make sure a building delivers the expected performance, we can help.
Across the KLH team, we have two certified Passivhaus designers and several advisors who have experience working on projects that have achieved BREEAM, Code for Sustainability Homes, WELL or LEED certification. Typically, standalone certification assessments are not something KLH Sustainability offer due to their limitations, though we do provide certification services as part of a wider sustainability strategy and ambition.
