The Project:

Building on the experience gained through working on the London 2012 Olympic Park, KLH Sustainability provided technical support to the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Organising Committees under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

For Sochi 2014, KLH undertook two missions to develop clear, specific Action Plans on “Zero Waste Games” for the Organising Committee – part of a wider UNEP mission to tackle key Sochi 2014 sustainability themes.

KLH also undertook two missions to Rio 2016: the first mission in 2013 provided external commentary on the Rio 2016 Sustainability Management Plan, with the second in 2015 developing this review into a final report of additional actions for the Organising Committee. A range of aspects were covered, including Employment and Skills, Carbon Footprinting and Reduction, and Water Quality.
