The Project:

Kirsten is a technical advisor for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), providing review of Olympic Organising Committees implementation and delivery of sustainable venues and infrastructure (VNI). Aside from attendance at formal venue by venue reviews, Kirsten’s work with the IOC has focussed on providing Beijing 2022 with comprehensive sustainability reporting guidelines and adoption of a more sustainable approach to temporary infrastructure required for the Games. Work with Paris 2024, is at a much earlier stage. To date, she has supported the Paris Organising Committee in developing a comprehensive roadmap to delivering sustainable VNI for the Games highlighting key guidance and procedures required. She has provided an early framework to support the development of Paris 2024’s Sustainable Design Guidelines for temporary overlay, as well as helping to integrate sustainability into VNI procurement procedures and contracts.
Kirsten was also a contributor and facilitator at the IOC’s 2020 Inaugural Think Tank on Sustainable Temporary Infrastructure. This Think Tank aims to develop a network for current and future Olympic Organising Committees whereby technical advice and lessons learnt can be shared to improve the sustainable design and delivery of VNI required for a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games.
