Clarion Housing Group

Circular Economy Strategy

KLH Sustainability worked closely with Clarion Housing Group, the largest housing association in the UK, to develop a Circular Economy Strategy for the business. This bespoke strategy provides guidance for embedding circular economy principles throughout the whole building life-cycle. Following extensive research and engagement with the Clarion project teams, KLH Sustainability identified 12 practical interventions which aim to reduce waste generation and materials consumption at each stage of the building life-cycle, while maximising social value creation and economic return on investment.

Clarion’s focus for piloting implementation of the Circular Economy Strategy is Merton Regeneration Project (MRP), a three site, 17-phase project in South London. KLH Sustainability analysed MRP and determined the potential scale of benefits for demolition and construction to be £5,000,000 waste disposal cost savings, 16,500 fewer HGV movements, 7,760 tCO₂e savings and 122,000 tonnes of virgin material use avoided.

The Clarion Circular Economy Strategy has received a great deal of positive coverage, including within the recent Green Building Council Circular economy guidance for construction clients. We now look forward to helping Clarion make the strategy a reality!
